26 January, Darling Harbour promises to be the most popular Sydney location to celebrate Australia Day. From 10.00am there will be free kids entertainment, live music, an international food fair and a vessels parade on the water.
Australia Day is by far the busiest day on Sydney Harbour with a number of events taking place throughout the day to entertain the thousands of spectators on the harbour and along the foreshores.
Australia Day highlight events include the following:
11.00am AAMI Ferrython
One of the most popular events is the annual Ferrython which has been entertaining spectators for over 30 years. The famous ferry race sees four brightly and colourfully decorated First Fleet ferries battle it out to be the first ferry to make it under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The race starts at Fort Denison, loops around Shark Island and finishes at the Harbour Bridge.
12.00pm Australia Day Parade Gun Salute
The annual Australia Day Parade presents an amazing spectacle of watercraft ranging from yachts, boats, ships, barges, tall ships, cranes, ferries and tour boats. The array of vessels on display are also in competition for the title of “Best Dressed Vessel”. Starting under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the vessels will travel around Clarke Island and back.
2.00pm RAAF Flyover
The Royal Australian Air Force FA-18 Hornets will fly over Sydney Harbour in an awesome aerial
display to keep you further entertained.
3.00pm Tall Ships Race
Join the magnificent Tall Ships starting at Bradley’s Head and making their way under the
Harbour bridge.
8:30pm Darling Harbour Spectacular
The highlight of Sydney’s Australia Day celebrations is the Australia Day Spectacular, a stunning multimedia symphony of pyrotechnics, light and music, culminating in a massive fireworks extravaganza over Cockle Bay.
