The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2009 will start on 26 December and will be conducted on the waters of Sydney Harbour, the Tasman Sea, Storm Bay and the Derwent River.

Over the past 64 years, the Rolex Sydney Hobart has become an icon of Australia’s summer sport, ranking in public interest with such national events as the Melbourne Cup horse race, the Davis Cup tennis and the cricket tests between Australia and England. No yachting event in the world attracts such huge media coverage – except, of course, the America’s Cup and the Volvo Ocean Race – than does the start on Sydney Harbour. And the others only happen every four or five years.

Book a water taxi to chase the boats to the Sydney Heads. Our water taxis are ideal if you want to keep up with the race leaders and see which boat manages to cross the line at the Heads which marks the beginning of proper ocean racing.

If you want to keep up with the pack but would rather trade a bit of speed in for unrivalled comfort and style, book one of our water limousines. With a large rear deck and fully upholstered seating, you’ll be able to pop open a bottle of Champagne as we move east to the Heads alongside world famous yachtsmen. Bring along your picnic lunch and your drinks and make it a big day out for your friends and family. We can even stop at a harbour island on the way back if you want to have your picnic lunch on solid ground and have us pick you up afterward.
